True HornsAs previously mentioned, true horns are two-part structures qualified as a sheath of keratin over a bony stub. Unlike antlers, true horns do not shed once a year and are not male specific. Horns will continue to grow throughout the animals life and in many situations can be used to calculate the animals age.
